Bellefonte
Bellefonte (French for “Beautiful Spring”) was named by French Statesman Talleyrand. Talleyrand Park is a beautiful place to enjoy a picnic or feed the ducks or fish. Spring Creek which flows through Bellefonte is home to some of the best fly fishing in the area and is popular among kayakers. The downtown area is very charming and ideal for shoppers as it features antique shops, jewelry, boutiques, and other specialty stores set in Victorian architecture. The Bellefonte Art Museum offers classes rotating and permanent exhibits as well as a wide range of youth programs including a children’s garden. Bellefonte is also home to the Centre County Library Historical Museum and the American Philatelic Society. Bellefonte is the county seat of Centre County and contains the Centre County Courthouse and government offices. The Bellefonte School District offers four elementary schools (grades 1-5), one middle school (grades 6-8), and one high school (grades 9-12). The elementary schools are Bellefonte Elementary, Benner Elementary, Marion Walker Elementary & Pleasant Gap Elementary.
Bellefonte Area School District includes the boroughs of Bellefonte; the Townships of Benner, Marion, Spring, and Walker and the communities of Pleasant Gap, Zion, Hublersburg, parts of Howard, Mingoville, Snydertown.
